Stir up Sunday

Get ahead for Christmas by making your Christmas cake on "Stir up Sunday". It's the last Sunday before Advent and is the traditional start of the Christmas season celebrations. This year it falls on November 23rd.

The name Stir up Sunday is thought to originate from the collect of the day from the Book of Common Prayer, which begins: 'Stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord...." and unintentionally reminds the church goers that it's time to make the Christmas pudding or cake.

So come the 23rd of this month, our family will all make our wishes whilst stirring our christmas cake to our handed down traditional fruit cake recipe.......and no it's a secret!
